How to care for fashion jewelry rings

by Shannon on April 25, 2010

Fashion jewelry, including rings, even if high quality will never be as durable and long lasting as fine jewelry. However using costume jewelry, as it is often called, allows you to follow fashions and the latest trends without it costing a fortune. Even expensive fine jewelry won’t last forever without the proper care and attention.

Proper care will prolong the life of your jewelry. Keeping jewelry away from chemicals, lotions, water and perfume as much as possible will prolong the life of your fashion jewelry. Make sure when using cleaners you read the instruction label and that the cleaner doesn’t contain chemicals harmful to the materials your jewelry is made out of, e.g. gold silver, aluminium, chrome, pearls or gems. Also avoid soap and water as most soap will leave a residue, which can make the metal look dull. Vinegar is harmful to gemstones. Using a very soft cloth moistened with water is ok, but don’t submerge the item entirely. Make sure your jewelry is completely dry before you wear or store it.

Here are some tips for storing.

1)       Moisture is the most important thing to avoid and can destroy the metals. Store in a soft jewelry pouch or plastic Ziploc bag

2)       Avoid temperature changes as this can affect stone settings and the glue used.

3)       Sore separately from other items to avoid scratching and stones getting dislodged.

4)       Avoid Oak boxes and cabinets as this wood can release fumes that can damage fashion jewelry.

5)       Avoid cardboard boxes as they are often treated with sulphur, which will tarnish gold and silver.

Following the above advice will greatly prolong the luster and life of your fashion jewelry and rings.

Teen Fashion Trends With Mud Flaps At The Back

by Shannon on April 25, 2010

Last week, sitting at an old family friend’s cafe chatting about this and that, my friend (just over 50) noticed a teen walking past on their way out.

“How can boys like that?”

“Like what?” I asked

“That long hair with mud flaps at the back?!” he exclaimed

I couldn’t stop laughing. Although a funny comparison, unfortunately it was true.
The young man was wearing jeans almost at his ankles, long hair, and something that resembled a t-shirt under a grungy, what looked like, a leather jacket.

So for those who are at cross roads about today’s fashion and present-ability of our youth people, today, just for you, I have two things to share:

1. AN INSIGHT
It seems like the ‘long hair on guys’ is putting everyone off because it’s ‘girly’.
But I am not sure if people have forgotten than when the ‘forbidden rock and roll’ started taking the youth of the world by storm way back when, the most popular band were loved and hated for their velvet jackets and long hair. Decades later, the Beatles are forever in the history of music.

Just a reminder that to those who say times are different these days…

2. TOP TIPS
Fashion will come and go, and almost everyone is prone to it. For those who don’t believe me, ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ has an excellent scene where unfashionable Andy makes fun of a belt dilemma at a fashion magazine, and in return gets told the unabridged version of the history of blue garments that stand behind the $2 blue sweater she wore to work that day. Excellent movie. But anyway…
Although you can’t force a teen to wear the clothes you want, you can still give them supportive advice and compromise.

A) Be supportive of their fashion choices – if it’s blatantly ridiculous, you can sleep peacefully at night knowing one day when they grow up, they will admit you were right about their ridiculous fashion choices. I still cringe when I think about the VERY WIDE 70’s style Levi’s I had that my parents hated when I was 14 – we all thought we were the ’schizz’ when we wore those jeans…except now I know we weren’t…

B) If their clothing is blatantly nonfunctional (e.g. jeans around ankles), or unhygienic (e.g. long jeans that track mud around the house like a dirty bike) take them early birthday/Christmas/New Years shopping ASAP

C) Next time you go to the hairdressers, get them to come with you, or get them to have a look at some magazines with hairstyles in there – you may find out that they actually hate their hair
the way it is now.

D) If you attend art gallery opening, shows, etc, ask if the teen wants to come with you – a reason for them to dress up and take pride in their outer-skin, as well as get to know and see people with different fashion styles.

E) Remember your days…laugh about them, share them! My brother used to have long crazy whacky hair, until we went back home to Russia and he saw pictures of my Dad with long whacky hair in his
youth (it looked just as ridiculous as my brothers – I swear!). The next day without any of our knowledge, my brother turned up home with a much shorter haircut.

Designer And Celebrity Inspired Shoe

by Shannon on April 25, 2010

Want to be on trend with the big designer names this summer but can not afford the hefty price tag? Then these designer inspired Spring Summer 2010 styles are a must have for you.

Vogue New Shoes 2010 – “Our favourite footwear from the spring/summer 2010 catwalks”

After looking at Vogue’s online feature on its favourite shoes for Spring Summer 2010 we came across these fab designer shoes by Michael Kors. ”Spindly heels make a comeback and when in court form – are the perfect wardrobe update” say Vogue. Our new arrival from United Nude is Cup Buckle Sandal Hi which is a fabulous shoe with on trend features similar to the Michael Kors lovelies; including: toe strap, sprindly stiletto heel and foot/ankle strap. The United Nude Cup is a sculptured heel piece which literally ‘cups’ the heel of a classic shoe and also acts as a backpiece

Camila Alves – Matthew Mcconaughey Girlfriend

Whilst flicking through the weekly Hello magazine we came across this image of Camila Alves (Matthew Mcconaughey’s girlfriend) rocking black, low heeled military ankle boots. Our first thought was what a similar design to our Rambler Boot by Miss L Fire and if we say so ourselves Rambler Bootis more on trend with its red and black check panelling and buckle straps adding to the military detailing. Both Camila Alves Boots and Rambler Boots have lace up fastening detailing, cap toe feature and low block heel making them a perfect Spring boot – definately one for the music festivals! Embrace the military look this Spring Summer season and if Matthew Mcconaughey agrees…

Most Common Fashion Mistakes Part I

by Shannon on April 25, 2010

I know we all want the same thing, to look great! Right? Nothing can spoil your look more than a conspicuous fashion faux pas. Unfortunately, there are some fashion errors that we might not be aware of, but that we might practice. So for the benefit of all the readers out there, i will points out the most common fashion mistakes and how not only for woman, but also for men and how to avoid them.

1. The Color Issue

A. Wearing the wrong colors

All skin tones among us are not created equal. To look your best, choose wardrobe colors that complement your skin. Wearing the wrong colors will make your skin appear sallow and lines and wrinkles will be more evident. The lime green or hot pink that you saw on the runways may look fabulous on the models, but horrible on you. Experiment with different colors and stick with the palettes that look best on you. Don’t waste your money on clothes that make you look pale, sallow, jaundiced, or washed out.

B. Wearing red and green at the same time.

Honestly, you will look like a Christmas tree. Red and green are two of the colors that you absolutely must avoid wearing together. These colors completely clash, so just stay clear. Also, it’s best to stay away from green and red makeup. If you decide to go for a green eyeshadow, don’t put on a bright red lipstick. Instead, opt for a clear gloss or a nude color.

C. Wearing too many Colors.

A common fashion mistake is using too many colors. As a general rule wear up to three colors only, for a easy on the eye coordinated look.

2. The Shoes

A. Dirty shoes.

It would be bad enough if you had shoes that were out of style, or didn’t match with your outfit, but if you have dirty shoes, you’re making a big fashion faux pas. Make sure to keep your shoes in style, according to your outfit, and most importantly, clean!

B. Bulky shoes with feminine dress.

A floral, feminine dress should never be paired with bulky shoes such as thick platforms. This kind of dress deserves a pair of soft, delicate shoes. Anything with a small heel, and even wedges and espadrilles.

C. Messy Shoes

Take care of your shoes, for they complete your look. Also ensure that your shoes complement your outfit.

D. Rundown shoes

You look great…from the ankles up. If your shoes have seen better days, find a good shoe repair shop and put them in for some TLC. Polish them regularly. Use a felt tip marker on scuffs, and put a piece of soft carpet under your feet when you drive. And most importantly, invest in a good pair if you’re going to wear them every day. Don’t buy them at the Five and Dime and then wonder why they don’t last.

E. Clothing & Shoes Should Match.

Keep your clothing and shoes in the same color unless using black which goes with anything. Don’t ever make the mistake of mismatching light and dark colors i.e. dark clothes and light shoes and vice versa.

3. Make-Up

A. Too much makeup

Too much makeup creates a harsh look and makes lines appear deeper. Keep your daytime makeup light and evening makeup a little darker. If you are unsure of makeup application techniques, see a professional. Many popular cosmetic counters at your local department store will provide a free makeup session.

B. Inappropriate makeup

Light for day, heavier for evening, sheer for sports or other strenuous pursuits. You wear different clothes for different activities in you life; your makeup should change as well. And if you’re still doing Cleopatra eyes, it’s time to turn the page and see what’s happening THIS century in makeup styles.

These fashion mistakes tend to come from people not accepting their body type and wearing the latest fashion because its popular. To look your best, always be true to yourself and you will present a stylish confident look that will create the right impression for all occasions.

So here sums up the Part I of my Most Common Fashion Mistakes. Better Watch out for more of this later on my posts.

Ten Ways to Save Money On Girls Fashion

by Shannon on April 24, 2010

Girls who do not have tons of money lying around, but want in on the hottest outfits and fashion trends can still do so even on a budget. There are plenty of items out there that look chic and stylish, and yet are easy on the purse strings. All it takes to land decent deals on cool clothes and accessories are heeding good advice and doing some really smart shopping.

Yes, it is possible to get celebrity fashion looks for way under $100. Face it. Regular “Janes” seldom afford designer duds Hollywood celebs are wearing. As a result, people look for other means to fulfill their fashion hankerings. Some recreate the outfits of celebrities, pulling apart each piece and replacing them with less expensive but pricey-looking materials. Others do something else. The bottom line is: there are ways to get stylish without burning a huge hole in the pocket.

Here are tips to get you out of a fashion slump and be one step closer to looking ultra-chic – the affordable way.

• It sucks to find out your latest fashion splurge went up for sale a week after buying it. Before forking over a credit card, inquire whether the object of the fashion desire will be on sale sometime in the very near future. The salesperson might let you in on an upcoming sale, or even better, ring the item up at sale price on the spot.
• Another great way to snag the best deals is to stock up on seasonal apparel just when the season is about to end. Comb through the sale racks for sweaters in May, bikinis in August, and short-sleeved shirts in November.
• Avoid gift cards going to waste. They can still be good for swapping with others’ unwanted cards on various card websites.
• Thrift shops, like high-priced boutiques, can prove equally expensive. However, friends’ wardrobes and closets are usually free. Arrange clothing swaps with the chicest of your chums. For varying shoe sizes or different dresses, consider accessories exchanges – costume jewelry, headbands, scarves and bags.
• Get good selections by hitting stores on weekdays. Best odds of getting lucky are Thursdays, as these are when weekend sales pop up. Shoppers benefit from the price cuts while still having a wide selection to browse. The worst time to go is later in the weekends as stuff will have been picked over by the early birds.
• After items stay in stores for months, retailers begin dropping their price to get rid of them. For those with enough self-control: wait out grabbing the merchandise for six to eight weeks after they hit the storefronts.
• Benefit from half-off, buy-one-take-one and other such discounts – NOT by acquiring everything you are able to carry, but by bringing fashion-forward friends along. The two of you crave a new pair of pants? Hit the store together and get in on the special deals.
• Consider shopping online using online coupons. These coupons are similar to vouchers people clip in newspapers and magazines, providing deals, promotional bundles and discounts. They are found online with codes people can copy, download and print prior to shopping. Some of them even don’t require any downloading, simply enter the provided code and start enjoying the savings. Sites compile them from different sources and make them available for free to Internet shoppers. Some coupons give percentage discount, offer free shipping (no territorial limits or boundaries for selling online), and/or freebies.
• Everybody has that one place that messes up her shopping sense and judgment. Compel yourself to remain within a specified budget and guard against impulsive spending. Load gift cards only with amounts you’re able to spend and leave plastic moneys at home.
• Take good care of clothes. Hand-wash delicate lingerie, dry-clean those tagged “dry-clean”, and never let the bedroom floor serve as a second closet. Favorite items will last longer this way so there is no need to replace them a few months into using them.

With a bit of time and some effort, consumers can save quite a bundle with their fashion shopping. Whether it is paying brick-and-mortar stores a personal visit or searching through cyber stores, there are some definite money savings to be had. Even if it is just a few dollars for each purchase, all these can add up to some very substantial savings in the end.

During these tough times, you need to be able to save on girls fashion and accessories. So for discount apparel and other fashion savings for girls, check out the merchants featured and rated at CouponTrunk.com

Most women love footwear.  To men it is just one of life’s little mysteries, something that just cannot be understood.  There are many ladies who just cannot resist going out and buying a new pair of shoes even though she already has another dozen or so pairs back at home.  Whether they are designer shoes, evening shoes (or even wedding shoes) is irrelevant.  The only thing that matters is that she must have them because they will go with that certain outfit so well.

There has been many an argument between men and women over whether or not she really needs that three-figure pair of designer shoes or not. The safest policy for partners or husbands is to keep their opinions to themselves and to let her get on with it.  The thing that bothers men most of all about the situation is that they just cannot understand why a women needs to keep buying different pairs of shoes.  Men tend to think about things in a more practical manner and they just cannot see things from the woman’s point of view.

Bette Midler said, ‘Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world.’  That is quite a statement but the lady obviously knew what she was talking about.

For a woman, an expensive pair of designer shoes can do wonders for her self-confidence.  With the right footwear she can walk into that job interview believing that she has already got it.  If she is wearing the pair of shoes that go so well with her little black dress then the handsome and popular guest at the party will be unable to resist her charms.  In short, a woman’s shoes hold a near magical quality.  They make her feel good about herself and boost her self-esteem.

So, when you are out shopping with your wife or partner and she insists on trying on an expensive pair of designer shoes think very carefully before saying anything to her.  Try not to think too much about the price tag and do your best to forget that her wardrobe is already home to enough pairs of designer shoes to last a lifetime.  Instead of the negative aspects (even if they do happen to be true) think about how good this new pair will make her feel.  After all, you should enjoy treating her and it should be important to you that she feels good about herself.

There are many people who spend hundreds of pounds on self-help books, therapy sessions or dubious new-age style cures in a constant struggle to feel more positive about themselves.  If you look at it in this way then the simple act of purchasing a pair of designer shoes is suddenly not such a big deal after all.  In fact, perhaps more women should try doing it.

Besides, as a partner or husband, what is the point in you having that credit card if you don’t go out and use it once in a while?

Shoes encyclopedia1

by Shannon on April 24, 2010

Different shoes materials, heel, color, toe shape and other factors make shoes vary from one to another. That’s why there is a big difference between leather shoes and ugg boots. See some common factors that affect shoes design.

Heel shapes and styles

Stilettos
What: Yes, stilettos are back. Well, it’s not that they ever went anywhere – but they’re once again dominating the runways, and that is to say that the chunky-heeled revolution is over. One thing we are seeing though is a hybrid of platform and stiletto: a hidden platform in the front part of the shoe, with a super-tall stiletto heel at the back.

Verdict: Stilettos are streamlined, elegant, and sexy. The higher they are, the hotter they look, but of course they don’t offer much support for one’s feet. Not that ergonomics is really on anyone’s mind when they’re looking at designer shoes.

Tapered heels
What: Heels that start thick at the top and taper down, often with a curve, into a stiletto-esque point at the bottom.

Verdict: They’re a sexy, interesting and modern style which can really spice up an outfit. Not as much a classic shape, so buy them if you intend to get a lot of wear out of them over the next few seasons.

Thick, chunky heels

What: Platforms and thick heels have dominated the past few seasons; and a number of the major design houses have seen fit to carry them on for Autumn / Winter 2008.

Verdict: All those sturdy heels we’ve just invested in shouldn’t go to waste too soon – despite the return of the more graceful stiletto. The definite advantage of shoes with a thick heel is that they’re better to walk in; so make the most while you can.

Toe shapes

Squared-off toes
What: It’s been a while since square toed shoes have been popular… and it’s now their time to return. Before we all start having nightmares of those awful clunky dramatically-square shoes that were cool way back when, take note on the new squared-off shape. It’s a tapered in toe with a short blunt nose – rather than a fully squared toe.

Verdict: A nice, modern alternative to the lady-like round-toe; edgy, but not as harsh as a sharp point. A subtle squared-off toe is a great option in 2008.

Pointed Toe
What: It was only in recent memory that razor-sharp pointy toes were in. And yet, here they are again.

Verdict: It feels a bit soon, but with stilettos back in the pointed toe was never going to be far away. For those not game, round-toes are still an option, as is the squared-off toe.

Ugg Australia boots are not just for winter anymore. These boots are showing up everywhere. Women are wearing these big boots with short skirts. Children and grown-ups alike are wearing their brightly colored boots regardless of the season. Celebrities are wearing these boots during filming breaks. Surfers are wearing these boots at the beach! Young or old, male or female, the demand for these boots has never before been greater.

Before you head for the nearest mall to purchase your very own pair of ugg Australia boots , stop for a moment and ask yourself, “Haven’t I seen these boots before?” If you are college-aged or younger, you have seen these boots everywhere including on the Internet, in store catalogues, and in stores themselves. You may even have a pair or two right now in your very own closet. But if you are close to or even a part of the baby boomer generation, then you likely remember these boots from the seventies. Surfers wore them back then and made the ugg Australia boots popular on the surfing circuit.

That’s right. The look of ugg Australia boots has been on the fashion scene before. In fact, these sheep skinned boots were around even before the seventies. World War II fighter pilots wore a similar style of boot while in combat. And before that, Australians tied sheep skin scraps around their feet while working outdoors because the sheep skin kept their feet warm. It’s even said that the name, ugg, is short for the word, ugly. Believe it or not, people who wore these boots in previous times thought that the style of the boot, while practical, was plain old ugly.

And for all its popularity, there are lots and lots of people who would rather freeze in the cold than wear ugg Australia boots. Some people state that those people who are crazy enough to wear this style of boot end up looking like elves. Others look at the ugg Australia boots and can only recall the bad memories of the boots that their mothers forced them to wear back in elementary school. And there are still other people who think that there is an appropriate time and an appropriate age for wearing this style of boots and warm weather and twenty-something is neither the time nor the age.

As with many things in life, those things that are controversial tend to become popular. And it seems that the controversy over whether to wear or not to wear the ugg Australia boots is only adding to the popularity of these boots. And as long as celebrities are shown wearing these fancy-colored, genuine sheep skin boots while walking around the trendy streets of Los Angeles, sales of this popular boot style will only continue to soar.

So getting back to the original question of whether wearing ugg Australia boots will put you ahead of fashion or behind, it seems that the answer may very well be, “Does it really matter?” The boots are incredibly comfortable to wear and the marketing materials claim that the composition of the natural sheep skin actually keeps your feet warm but will also keep your feet cool. So, regardless of the type of climate zone in which you live, if you like the look of ugg Australia boots, go ahead and purchase a pair. And don’t worry about what other people might say. The only thing you’ll have to worry about is making the right boot selection because they come in so many different styles and colors.

Buying Wedding Shoes

by Shannon on April 24, 2010

Any man that has an ounce of intelligence will know that you should never come between a woman and a new pair of shoes.  For many women, buying footwear is an almost magical experience.  Bearing this in mind it is easy to understand how important it is for a woman to find herself the right pair of wedding shoes.  If men do not understand the true gravity of this situation then their best policy is to remain silent…

When you are looking for that ‘special pair’ of wedding shoes, the internet can save you an awful lot of time and hassle.  Going from shop to shop can be enjoyable to begin with, but it does not take very long before it becomes stressful and tedious.  Something which began as being pleasurable can quickly change to being far less enjoyable.

Another thing to consider is price.  When you are shopping online, you are going to be spending less because there are no shop assistants to be paid.  Many of the sites that you look at will have some very reasonable prices.

By spending a little while on the internet you can soon narrow down your choices.  Whatever type of wedding shoes it is that you are looking for they can be found quickly and easily. Most of the sites that supply them have their footwear arranged in specific categories.

Some people decide to have a ‘themed wedding’.  These can be really nice, especially if they are shaped around something that the two of you both really like.  If you fancy the idea of having something a little bit different for your big day then this is a great way of doing it.  Try typing ‘themed weddings’ into your search engine and you will soon come up with some really good ideas.  Perhaps you would like a Medieval wedding?  After all, how many times in your life do you get the excuse to be a princess?  There really are some wonderful clothes and accessories available in this style on the internet.  If you are choosing a pair of wedding shoes for a Medieval marriage then you are going to find yourself spoilt for choice.

The other good thing about buying your wedding shoes online is that a lot of websites will encourage you to order several different pairs to ensure that you buy the right ones.  You can always send back any that you are not so keen on, and you can be a lot more certain that you are getting the ones that are right for you.  Trying on wedding shoes in a high street shop is one thing but it is far better when you can take your time deciding within the comfort of your own home.  You are only going to be getting married once and you need to be absolutely sure that you have found the ones that you are completely happy with.

As you can see, there is an awful lot to be said for buying your wedding shoes online.

For your favoritesCrocs Shoes

by Shannon on April 23, 2010

I didn’t like the crocs shoes at all at the very beginning. Because I think it was rough. But I could’n imagine why so many people like to wear it? Maybe I was en exception. But gradually I changed my opinion. As a matter of fact, in all of my writing about shoes, I’ve never seen a brand get the compliments and rave reviews that Crocs shoes receive. After hearing such repeated declarations of love, what’s a girl to do but investigate further?

With slip-resistant soles, these shoes were originally designed for boaters and fishermen to wear on slippery decks. Today, chefs, health care workers, custodians, and anyone who is on their feet a lot is enjoying the benefits of these shoes.

As the same as ugg boots, crocs shoes are casual shoes as well. But the difference is that ugg boots are wore in winter, and crocs shoes are not used until summer. And here are a few other features that make Crocs special:

>>Available for men, women and kids.

>>Offered in a huge array of colors.

>>Totally Vegan

>>Made from a material that softens and warms with your body heat, allowing the shoes to mold to your feet.

>>Resistant to the fungus and bacteria that causes foot and shoe odor.

>>Holes around the bottom of the vamp allow for plenty of ventilation, while allowing air, sand and water to pass through.

>>Incredibly easy to clean, these shoes are ideal for garden work or other wet and messy conditions.

>>And the most important one, the prices is so reasonable.
